Corporate Profile
Cangene is a profitable and fully integrated developer and manufacturer of immune therapeutics, primarily targeting exigent infectious disease and biodefense applications. We have five products that have been approved in the United States and/or Canada and, with three products included in the U.S. Strategic National Stockpile, we are one of the largest civilian suppliers to the U.S. government. We began delivering on two U.S. government contracts during fiscal 2008, recording $76 million in related revenues during the year, and this was only a small portion of the total US$505-million combined value of the contracts.
With nearly 30 years of experience making our lead drug, WinRho® SDF, manufacturing capability is one of Cangene's key strengths. Along with producing our own drugs, we operate a successful contract R&D and manufacturing business using our Health Canada and FDA-inspected facilities.
Most of Cangene's products are hyperimmunes—purified antibody products that are specific for targets such as hepatitis B, botulism, and anthrax. In addition, we are developing monoclonal antibody technology and an innovative peptide therapeutic that may be effective in combating certain antibiotic-resistant infections. Rounding out our product portfolio are two recombinant protein therapeutics, made in one of our specialized manufacturing facilities.
Cangene has been listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange since 1991 under the symbol CNJ.
